What are the key implications for heredity as a result of meiosis?

Meiosis gives a genetically different organisms due to involved processes like recombination, reshuffling and crossing over. So from the seperation of homologous chromosomes, different genes are incorporated into different gamates. And as a result the progeny inherits a random set from both the parents.
