Did I do the right thing? Ladies, pleas answer. ?

I was talking to my ex as of yesterday. She broke up with me. She said it was because my feelings for her were stronger than hers were for me. She still wants to be friends. I told her that going back to being friends would be to painful for me, and that she should stay out of my life. I've tried to get back with her before I said that, but she refuses. Did I do the right thing pushing her away? And ladies, what would you think if a guy you left for those reasons told you that?
