Different Charges.. Differnt Plea's?

Hello. I was just wondering what happens if somebody has been charged with two different things (in this case common assault and GBH with intent) and the person pleads guilty to common assault but not guilty to GBH then what happens. Does the person get sentenced there and then for the one they have said they are guilty for and the other one gets sent to trail?
